A Few PTA Updates

Your voice matters! Election Day is 11/4! As a reminder, the PTA, as a 501(c)(3), cannot share a direct position on political candidates, but the PTA can and will continue to advocate for our school.

Make an impact and read below to learn how to keep Anderson traditions alive and bring new ideas to life. There are so many ways to raise a hand this year!

📢 Your Voice Matters: Support NYC’s G&T Programs 📢

Recent discussions about changes to G&T programs, including proposals to limit kindergarten entry, could directly affect schools like ours. These programs provide essential accelerated learning opportunities for students who need greater academic challenge. To raise this issue, PTA presidents from G&T programs co-signed a letter emailed to the three major mayoral candidates. Now we encourage all families to amplify this topic and reach out to city officials and mayoral candidates to share why accelerated education matters to your child and our community.

With one click, you can send an email to city leaders. (You can paste this URL in your browser if clicking doesn’t work: https://tinyurl.com/4s8s3wdw)

Or you can use the letter template provided by the PTA. Feel free to personalize them with your story and send them to the listed contacts. Every message helps remind decision-makers that families value strong, equitable public education that meets children where they are. Every message counts!

SLT Meeting - 10/28 at 2:45pm

The SLT team will host its October meeting in the library at 2:45 PM. The SLT is composed of elected parent and faculty representatives and meets monthly to set the Comprehensive Education Plan for the school. For more information on the role of SLTs please click HERE.

Parents are welcome to attend SLT meetings as observers, but cannot speak unless they request speaking time to discuss specific topics at least one week in advance. The Chair or Co-Chairs must approve all requests and must be relevant to SLT’s scope of responsibilities. Please email slt@andersonpta.org to make a request at least a week before the meeting or if you have any concerns/questions.

*As a reminder, grade issues or teacher-specific issues should first be discussed with the teacher in question. PTA-related or fundraising questions should be directed to the PTA.

🌟 Support Anderson’s 2025–2026 Direct Appeal 🌟

Thank you to the families who have already donated over $100,000 toward our goal of $500,000 – we are excited to see fantastic participation so far and hope all families will contribute what they can this year!

We hope you received our flyer in your student's backpack, and we have linked to the digital copy HERE.  Read it to learn more about how the Anderson PTA raises funds, and understand how critical the role of Direct Appeal is in bridging the gap between what the DOE provides and what the robust Anderson experience looks like across K-8. We hope all families will participate, regardless of donation size.
