📢 Speak Up for Accelerated Learning 📢

Recent proposals to limit kindergarten entry into accelerated programs could directly affect schools like ours. To advocate for advanced learners, our PTA presidents worked with NEST+m, TAG, and Lower Lab to co-sign a joint letter to the three leading mayoral candidates, urging them to preserve and expand accelerated learning opportunities in public schools.

Now it’s our turn to act!

Please join more than 500 families who’ve already spoken up for their children’s right to learn at their own pace. Your voice matters - and together, we’re impossible to ignore.

👉 Click here to send your message. (Or paste this in your browser: https://tinyurl.com/4s8s3wdw)

You can personalize the message with your own story - every email reminds decision-makers that families care deeply about high-quality, accelerated public education.

Note: As a 501(c)(3), our PTA cannot endorse political candidates, but we can and will continue to advocate strongly for our school and all accelerated learners.

🦃 Thanksgiving Eve Event 🦃

Stay tuned! On Wednesday, 11/26, our Thanksgiving Eve event will take place in the yard. Please save the date to volunteer and bring the family!

Working Together for Better Communication

A friendly reminder: Grade-level Whatsapp groups are unofficial platforms of communication between members of the Anderson community. Please keep messages focused on school logistics and PTA topics. If parents wish to voice concerns or questions about matters taking place during school hours, please reach out directly to school administrators, teachers and SLT reps. Doing so will improve communication between families and school leaders.

Thank you for helping us keep communication constructive and our community strong.

🌟 Support Anderson’s 2025–2026 Direct Appeal 🌟

Thank you to the families who have already donated over $100,000 toward our goal of $500,000 – we are excited to see fantastic participation so far and hope all families will contribute what they can this year!

We hope you received our flyer in your student's backpack, and we have linked to the digital copy HERE.  Read it to learn more about how the Anderson PTA raises funds, and understand how critical the role of Direct Appeal is in bridging the gap between what the DOE provides and what the robust Anderson experience looks like across K-8. We hope all families will participate, regardless of donation size.

Head Lice Check

We'd like to remind everyone that please do your part and check your child’s head for head lice – you should be doing this once a week, in any case. If you find lice or nits, report it to the main office – no names will be mentioned. Present your child to the main office for a head inspection upon returning to school.

A quick dummies guide shared by the School Administration can be found here.

Some basic lice info for you:

  • Anybody can get head lice – they prefer clean hair!
  • Head lice are small insects with six legs usually the size of a sesame seed.
  • They live on or very close to the scalp and don’t wander far down the hair shafts for very long.
  • Spread of head lice requires direct head to head contact.  They can’t swim, fly, hop or jump. Instruct children not to share hats, combs, brushes, etc.
  • They can only live on human beings; you can’t catch them from or give them to animals.
  • Nits are not the same thing as lice. Nits are the eggs laid by lice; they can be smaller than a pin head or the size and shape of a grain of rice, they are stuck onto the side of a hair shaft, are usually pearly white (but sometimes grey or brown.)
  • Nits must be combed out with a good quality lice comb or pulled off the hair shaft, or they will hatch into lice!

Returning to School

  • Students found to have live head lice will be excluded from school.
  • Students may return to school the day after treatment for head lice as long as there are no live lice upon re-inspection by school staff.
  • Students will be re-inspected by designated school personnel 14 days after initial treatment to make sure there are no live head lice.
The Grand Bazaar NYC

The Grand Bazaarprovides affordable retail space for local artisans and dealers. It is a significant fundraiser for the Anderson School PTA, earning tens of thousands of dollars per year.

Regular Market Is On!

In addition to Open Streets, the Market will be open, as usual. Every Sunday @ Columbus Ave. & 77th St (the Anderson School Yard) from 10am - 5pm.
