Anderson PTA Direct Appeal

Please kick off the school year by supporting the Anderson PTA Direct Appeal!

This vital campaign bridges the gap between public funding and our school’s operating budget, allowing the PTA to help our school deliver the robust K–8 Anderson experience.

While our ask is $2,000 per child, we ask every family to contribute whatever is feasible - because 100% participation is our key to success.

Ways to Give

Online via PayLite Platform on PTA Website: Most families use this portal to make contributions via credit card or ACH (which avoids CC fees): https://andersonpta.paylite.net/

Physical Check: Please do not send to the school address; use the PO Box below

Donor Advised Funds / Trusts: Please use the information below when directing your gift

Stock Donations: Contact directappeal@andersonpta.org for our Fidelity account details

Make gifts payable to “The Parents of P.S. 334, Inc.” and make sure any physical correspondence is sent to the PO Box below (NOT the school address):

To make things fun, we are holding a school-wide competition: the grade with the highest participation rate will win an epic pizza party for their kids!

Anderson Picture Day - Thursday, Oct 1

Please make sure your child comes to school with the outfit they’d like to wear for their photo.

By the time it’s their turn, hair and outfits may not look quite the same as they did at morning drop off — kids are kids! Please remind your child beforehand that parent volunteers will be available with mirrors, tissues, and disposable combs to help students get photo ready, especially our younger kids.

With 500+ students being photographed in one day, a little preparation at home will help everything run smoothly.

Check out this link for sample portraits featuring this year’s regal blue background.

Parenting / Wellness (New PTA Committee!)

Anderson Families are invited for complimentary admission to:

Actually, You’re Fine!
Dr. Katie Davis in Conversation with NBC’s Chloe Melas

How do we know when a child’s struggles are part of typical development, and when they may need additional support? Join clinical neuropsychologist Dr. Katie Davis, (author of Actually, You’re Fine: A Compassionate, Practical Guide to Maximizing Your Child’s Potential in the Age of Anxiety) and NBC News correspondent Chloe Melas for a thoughtful, practical conversation about raising resilient children with confidence and perspective.

Dr. Davis will explore how to distinguish normal developmental variation from true red flags and when intervention is and isn’t needed. Parents will gain practical strategies for navigating school concerns, advocating effectively, and supporting their child’s cognitive, social, and emotional growth without getting lost in the noise of modern parenting advice.

PTA Fall Election: October 16

The PTA Fall election will take place during the October PTA General Meeting on Friday, October 16 and 8:30am in the auditorium. The vacant roles (that were not elected in the PTA spring election) are:

  • Kindergarten grade rep (up to 2)

  • Auction chair/co-chair (up to 2)

In accordance with Chancellor’s Regulation A-660, where an officer position has more than one co-officer, co-officers must run together as a slate in order to serve together. This does not exclude another nominee or slate from running against a slate.

Candidates must nominate themselves by emailing nominations@andersonpta.org by October 1.

Kindergarten parents who are interested in the role of Kindergarten grade rep and have questions can email parentinvolvement@andersonpta.org.

Please see the PTA Bylaws for descriptions of these roles.

MIT Prof. Angela Belcher Visits Anderson

Anderson afterschool students in Arts and Athletics’ Arts and Crafts class and Scratch and Game Development class plus Manhattan Youth’s Jazz Band and Lego Robotics classes hosted a last-minute visitor last Friday, September 25. Biotech professor Angela Belcher from MIT gave a talk, “Nature to Nanoscience: An MIT Prof Explains How to Build with Biotechnology.” Afterwards, Prof. Belcher and her staff with the Biotech Across America Roadshow led hands-on activities, including extracting DNA from strawberries and kiwis, engineering an organism with paper, and creating a microbe zoo.

Thanks to Prof. Belcher, her staff, and Sayeed from Arts and Athletics and Clay from Manhattan Youth for securing limited building space and making the most of capacity limitations on short notice. We hope this trip inspires the Anderson community to find more opportunities to expand student learning.
